Pelican Elite Cooler may not have been an award winner or our Editor’s Choice, however its high scoring in a lot of parameters on our test has lent it great repute in performance and excellence of quality. The individual parameters and scoring for Pelican are discussed below.
With an insulation score of 8, Pelican did quite well in the insulation test. It broke the 40 degrees (F) point, which is a little before the best performing model. It has an ice retention period of 5 days, which is impressive for its brand and material made up of polyethylene. It still is a better scoring model among our high end names. It is enough for our usual weekend trips and will easily keep the eatables safe for up to 5 days without you worrying about anything rotting.
A score of 7 on durability parameter is very impressive. Pelican has a very rough looking outer among all the competitors. It is made up of elements that are hard molded plastic. These include but are not limited to the handles as well as the latches. It has a stretched drain plug that you can also use as a garden hose attachment. However, the lid seal may be a little delicate that caused the water to splash out by the end of the test and that is why a score of 7 was given and couldn’t earn our best marks. However, with the kind of its exterior, it will last long.
Though it is the heaviest model in the panel but it was also very easy to handle and port without doubt. This is because of the plastic handles used in its making. The handles are rigid and they allows the weight to be evenly distributed to the entire body so that when you pull them, you can easily handle to cooler without any trouble. On the other hand, the new model for 70 doesn’t feature extended handles; this implies that while transporting the person has to be in a somewhat squatting position. Also, because of its relatively large size, it is not very easy to be kept in vehicles.
Ease of Use
This is the best cooler model in the ease of use parameter and has scored outstandingly. It can be handled easily by its hard molded plastic just by the push of a button. The latches are easily released by button and then they get engaged by a push down. So, the user the can easily operate it even from unusual angles. Once you have opened up the lid, it won’t just come down and catch you off guard or hurt you. Moreover, it drains amazingly and is speed, though it has a short drain plug, which a few people might not like.
7 is a great score on features for Pelican Elite. Its differentiating features include a ruler that is attached with the lid. Along with that, it also features the drain plug leash. Moreover, all the features that you find in a high end model, you will be able to find it in Pelican Elite including handles, pin hinges and latches for exterior. As far as handles are concerned, there are two sets of them for ease of the person operating.
With a very rough looking exterior, it offers good insulation capability – better than a lot of other similar products. It might not be very portable and mobile, but for its price, it is simply a very good bargain.
